Our people and our systems
The Commissionfs most important resource is its people. Our capacity
to deliver a high quality output depends upon our people capability,
information and knowledge management, and our relationships
with stakeholders.
People
In order to get the best out of our staff we must provide a stimulating
and challenging work environment where people have the opportunity
to demonstrate a broad range of competencies with an emphasis on
legal research and writing, policy analysis, project management,
and relationship management. Staff should also be able to demonstrate
a good knowledge of the machinery of government and the legislative
process.
The Commission is continuing to develop its policies and processes to
support staff in their work, particularly in relation to flexible working
practices. Staff are encouraged to identify relevant training and
development opportunities and the Commission has a budget for training
initiatives. We support new graduate employees in gaining their legal
professional qualifications.
Information and knowledge management
Access to high quality information and technology infrastructure
and research resources is essential to the Commissionfs ability to
provide high quality advice and maximise the capability of our specialist
staff. We have a considerable investment in our law library and
online databases.
Effective management of information is also a priority. The Commission
is implementing the recommendations from a 2007/08 records
management review and has a programme of work mapped out over the
next three years. The implementation of our information, technology
and communications strategy is ongoing over the next year and is
essential for aligning our infrastructure with development of the law
reform enterprise over the next three years.
Specifically, in the 2009/10 financial year we will develop:
disaster recovery plans and undertake a vital records identification
and management exercise as part of our planning
our website as we move to publish our Issues Paper series online
only. This will require the development of a more user friendly
interface, as well as updating the presentation and interactive tools
on our site.
