39 (commencing operations in 1968) through the first of five successive agreements creating and continuing the Institute of Law Research and Reform.    150.  The Alberta Institute is funded jointly by the Alberta Department of Justice and the Alberta Law Foundation.  The Faculty of Law at the University of Alberta houses the Alberta Institute and provides many additional services, including a small cash grant. 151.  The Alberta Institute is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of members of  the  founding  parties.    The  Institute’ s  Board  makes  its  own  decisions  as  to whether  the  Institute  can  and  should  take  on  a  project  and  what  kind  of documents will be produced. 152.  The only significant change to the Alberta Institute since 1967 appears to be a new name – the Alberta Law Reform Institute – adopted in 1989. Australian Capital Territory 153.  The  ACT  Law  Reform  Commission  (formerly  the  Community  Law  Reform Committee) (“ACT Commission”) is a ministerial committee which reports to the ACT Government on formal references to the committee.  The functions of the ACT Commission are: ·   to assist the Government to identify matters appropriate for the ACT Law Reform Program;   ·   to  make  recommendations  to  the  Government  as  to  the  suitability  and priority of law reform matters; ·   to act as a sounding board concerning law reform initiatives and proposals put to the Committee by the Government;   ·   to make recommendations to the Government about the proposals; and ·   to assist other ACT reform agencies as the need arises.   154.  The  role  and  functions  of  the  ACT  Commission  appear  to  be  limited  in comparison to many other State law reform agencies.
