The Commission is a research based organisation. It reviews the law and processes in specific areas selected by it or referred to it by the Minister Responsible for the Law Commission. The Commission also assists government departments and Crown entities in reviews of the law and is regularly called upon to assist Parliamentary select committees.
An important factor in achieving successful law reform lies in maintaining effective relationships. The Commission works productively with other agencies to develop reform proposals, recognising that its recommendations will be greatly enhanced if they are the outcome of a collaborative and consultative working approach.
The Commission is a public organisation and it has a commitment to public consultation to inform and support discussion on its law reform proposals.
