“In April 2007, the Law Commission was given a reference to review the existing law on the extent to which the court in a criminal trial is made aware of the prior convictions of the accused,” the President of the Law Commission, Sir Geoffrey Palmer, said today.

“We are also asked to review any other allegations of similar offending by the accused or any other evidence of the accused’s bad character.”

“Today we release a Discussion Paper on these technically complicated and controversial issues.”
