The Law Commission is inviting public input on how New Zealand’s abortion laws could be made consistent with treating abortion as a health issue.
On 27 February the Minister of Justice, Hon Andrew Little, asked the Law Commission to provide him with a briefing on what alternative approaches could be taken in our legal framework to align with a health approach.
The Commission has created a website that explains the current law and the process for receiving abortion services.
The Commission is inviting input through the website (http://abortionlaw.lawcom.govt.nz) or by email (alr@lawcom.govt.nz) until 18 May 2018.
The Commission will provide its advice to the Minister in October 2018.
